If you spend any time on food social media, chances are you’ve come across Cooking With Amber Nicole. Her videos have exploded online over the past couple of years thanks to simple Southern cooking, a lot of personality, and a refreshing level of authenticity that people connect with immediately.
In this episode, Amber makes her very first podcast appearance and shares how her journey into content creation began. What started as a casual cooking video while traveling in a camper quickly turned into something much bigger when one of her early posts went viral and racked up millions of views.
During our conversation, Amber talks about how interacting with people in the comments played a big role in her early growth online. Instead of trying to game the algorithm, she simply responded to viewers and treated the comment section like a conversation, something that helped her audience grow naturally over time.
We also talk about the type of food she cooks and why she doesn’t chase viral trends. Amber focuses on the dishes she grew up with and the kind of meals she actually wants to eat, including classic Southern comfort foods like roast with rice and gravy, butter beans, peas, and other staples that remind her of cooking with family growing up.
Of course we also had to talk about her husband, better known to viewers as “Mr. Thurdy.” The nickname comes from the way he rates her cooking in videos. When asked to score meals from one to ten, his answer is always the same: thirty. The joke stuck and now fans instantly recognize him anytime he appears in one of Amber’s cooking videos.
Later in the show we get into the fun part with a quick round of food debates in the Tigs Blitz. From cornbread and cast iron skillets to burgers and other Southern staples, Amber shares some of her food opinions and even drops a controversial take that might surprise a few people.
If you enjoy food content, Southern cooking, and hearing the stories behind the creators you see online, this is a fun conversation. Amber opens up about how quickly things have grown, what it felt like crossing one million followers on Facebook, and where she hopes to take her cooking content next.
